As the River Clyde meanders slowly down to the coast, it meets the Irish Sea close to the beautiful Rosslea Hall. This is an area rich in history, with important country houses, beautiful parklands and gardens and, of course, unrivalled sea views. But there are also lots of more contemporary activities to enjoy in the Helensburgh area, including sporting activities and speciality shopping. And it’s all within an easy drive of the dynamic visitor attractions of Scotland’s biggest city, Glasgow.

Off the A814 2 miles east of Helensburgh.
Set around the 15th century Geilston House (not open to visitors), this charming garden was opened to visitors for the first time in 1998. It has a walled garden with glasshouses, a heather garden, herbaceous and mixed shrub borders and a spectacular Sequoiadendron giganteum. Paths through a wooded glen criss-cross the Geilston Burn, leading to a fruit and vegetable garden

The Hill House is considered to be Charles Rennie Mackintosh's finest domestic creation. Sitting high above the Clyde, it is home to original Mackintosh furniture and interior design and also has attractive formal gardens designed in the Mackintosh style.
